CODE Framework

Through my time in the CODE, I wish to develop methods for integrating social media and other digital communication tools into my curriculum.  That would include Facebook and Twitter to create a community conversation with our publications, blogs to writing in my senior English classes, and web 2.0 tools for communication, grading and classroom management.  In doing so, I should be able to accomplish the following feats:
  • Increased communication with students
    • Students can ask questions on their schedule, when they have questions
    • Students have the ability to ask questions in a private or non-threatening enviornment
    • Crowdsourcing of answers and building group-knowledge
  • Increased communication with parents
    • Parents have another avenue to get information or to ask questions
    • Parents have the ability to see what the daily assignments and lessons are, making it easier for them to work with their kids.
  • Transparency with curricular goals
    • Students and parents can see goals, how they align and where we are going
    • Students and parents can track, keeping tabs on progress
    • Students and parents can be more aware of grades and standing in the class
  • Differentiation of curriculum for different levels of students
    • Because materials are available at all times, students can work at their own pace
    • Parallel assignments can be given for enrichment
    • When different lessons are warranted, they can be delivered without the whole class knowing that a student has a different assignment, keeping the matter private
  • Develop an awareness of what it means to be a good citizen in the digital world
    • How to act online
    • How to react
  • Use Social Media to develop a PLN
    • Find like-minded professionals to help in my quests
